Planning the Perfect Wedding Night

Chances are that the wedding night won’t be your first roll in the hay, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be perfect and magical and memorable. Just like everything wedding-related, you have to think ahead a bit. With a bit of planning you can create the perfect wedding night for the two of you.

  1. Prioritize your alone time together. It’s ironic that on the day devoted to the two of you, you will likely spend LESS quality time with your new spouse than you did your bridal party. That’s what makes the last few hours of your wedding day even more special. Prioritize that time together by setting a few ground rules. The biggest considerations are the amount alcohol to be consumed and the time to leave the reception. Addressing these issues beforehand will allow you to retreat at a reasonable hour with your spouse still standing.

  2. Plan for your monthly visitor. No one wants Aunt Ruby making an appearance when you’re ready to get frisky. Keep an eye on the calendar in the months/ weeks leading up to your wedding day and be prepared to take action if a problem looks imminent. Call your doctor or check out a site like Wisp for options.

  3. Now you’ve got your new spouse sober and awake with no sight of Aunt Ruby anywhere. This is when you pull out all the stops— slip into something sexy, dim the lights, turn on some mood music, and break out the massage oil. Do all the romantic things your partner likes and really enjoy each other.

For some serious bonus points— have your bridal party prep the honeymoon suite with flower petals, chilled champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, etc.

Ultimately, you must be realistic about your expectations. It’s been a long day. This probably won’t be the night for marathon sex. There may be no sex at all. You may come back to your hotel room hungry and fall asleep waiting for room service. But if consummating your marriage on your wedding night is important to you, plan for it and knock down potential obstacles before they happen.
