Don't Stress! Planning Details Not to Prioritize
Planning a wedding can be exciting, but it often feels like you have another full-time job. It's easy to get overwhelmed when there are so many things that need your attention and nothing seems urgent enough to complete first!
One of the most important things to you in your wedding planning process is choosing which details are worth spending time on. The right photographer and the perfect menu for your reception dinner should be enough to keep you busy, but as time goes on there are other wedding details that just don’t deserve a spot in your planner. You can let go of some small, less-important decisions like what typeface should be used for invitations or when the cake will need to be delivered and focus more energy instead on larger choices such as who's going to officiate at your ceremony or deciding how many guests each table should seat. Letting go of these things is not only relieving, it will give you more space for those bigger decisions without making life any harder or stressing yourself out.
Coordinating All the Colors
Planning a wedding can be challenging enough without worrying about whether everything matches! But, it shouldn’t bother you if your tablecloths clash with the groomsmen’s ties. There are many ways to make sure that there is some cohesion throughout your wedding day by sticking within a defined color palette and not stressing out over tiny details like colors matching perfectly.
Having an Even Number of Bridesmaids and Groomsmen
Symmetry is great, but it’s not necessary in your wedding party. Maybe you have more close friends than your fiancé, or maybe he/ she has more close friends than you. Don't feel obligated to ask people to be in the bridal party when they're not super-close with either of you. On the flipside though - don't leave out someone who means a lot just so that you can meet an arbitrary number for the big day.
Personalizing All the Things
If you’re stressing about the font of your monogram on the napkins, it’s time to take a step back and take a very deep breath. It might seem tempting at first glance to focus on all of those small little party details, trying desperately to make them perfect like what you saw on Pinterest, but I promise you won't get much benefit out of doing so. Instead, focus on the big stuff that really matters, like your wedding vows.
Enjoying the Perfect Weather for Your Day
The weather on your wedding day is unpredictable. You won't be able to control if it's sunny or storming, so just make sure you have a Plan B for both days. Worrying about things out of your control is just counterproductive, so stop checking the long-term forecast! At the end of the day you’ll be married to your love no matter the weather conditions.
Keeping Your Family Members in Line
The weather isn't the only thing you can’t control. Your guests’ behavior is not something we have power over, and there are often loved ones who like to create drama. Most people are better behaved when attending wedding, but you can always assign a close friend or family member to intervene or keep an eye on them.
Playing the Perfect Music
Give your DJ some direction. You should definitely let him or her know what kind of songs are on the playlist—and maybe even throw out a few definite no’s for good measure too—but don't go overboard by dictating every single song that will be played throughout the night. After all, DJs are professionals who understand how to choose tunes that can turn any event into one unforgettable evening.
