Be the Best Wedding Guest Ever

Even with the pandemic, people are still getting married and the time will return when we can attend weddings and receptions.

How can you be the best guest ever? It really boils down to being considerate in a few ways.

*RSVP promptly. If you can't attend, send a pretty card or gift to wish the couple a happy life. Don't put the couple in the position of chasing you down to find out if you will be showing up.

*CHECK the couple's wedding website & registry before you shop for gifts. This will help you make the perfect gift selection.

*READ the invitation so that you know what the couple is planning and you know how to dress and prepare to attend.

*PLUS 1 needs permission right? If the invitation doesn't say "plus 1" you cannot assume it is okay. Ask if it isn't clearly listed.

*DRESS appropriately. Only the bride wears white, not the guest. Keep in mind the location (such as a church) where skin might be thought improper or disrespectful.

*ARRIVE on time or preferably ahead of time. 30 minutes ahead is a good goal.

*PHONES need to be silenced or turned off if you are unsure how to silence the noise.

*BE in the receiving line and introduce yourself to the couple's parents. Thank them for including you in this day.

*INTRODUCE yourself at the table where you are seated. Mingle with the other guests and become acquainted but follow the seating chart.

*FLEXIBILITY is a great asset at weddings and receptions. Go with the expectation of celebrating and enjoying yourself. Be open to new people, new adventures and spontaneous events. Weddings can bring the most wonderful surprises even if you aren't the couple marrying.

*GRATITUDE is a great part of your wedding guest toolkit. Appreciate the being included and sharing in this special part of the couple's new married life. Recognize that you are fortunate to have the experience and welcome the adventure. As you enjoy the festivities and share that joy, everyone will see you as the best wedding guest ever because your joy will be infectious. That might be the greatest gift for the day - who doesn't love happiness?!
