All rustic decor

Gone is the decor centered on mason jars, twine, and burlap. Rustic still works, but designers are subtly steering away from the traditional components and towards more elegant florals, touches of metal, and geometric shapes.

Photo booths

While the booths with curtains are not obsolete, many couples are opting for a thematic backdrop designed by themselves or their event decor professional. Think of pallet walls, fairy lighting behind sheer curtains, and similar designated selfie stations for guests. Less about props and more about backdrops.

All-male/ all-female bridesmaids/ groomsmen

Tradition says the bride asks a handful of ladies to stand with her, and the groom asks a handful of men to do the same. Today, friendship is friendship, just as love is love. It is no longer uncommon for brides or grooms to ask friends of the opposite gender to stand with them.

Greenery

Myrtle, ivy, ferns, and eucalyptus have been used in every aspects of centerpieces, bouquets, and decor. Yes, they’re beautiful. Yes, the simplicity is captivating. But yet, this trend, too, is beginning to fade. Many couples are exploring alternative options- including wooden or paper florals, as well as grasses and dried blooms.

White/ ivory gowns

Who says the bride must wear white or ivory? It may be tradition, but it’s not for everyone. While wearing a colored gown may raise some eyebrows, today’s brides are incorporating their own takes on the wedding dress. Common deviations are centered around the theme of the wedding or the color palette.

Chalkboards

The rustic movement paved the way for chalkboard signage. They’ve been used in everything from table numbers to ceremony and reception signs to centerpieces. The trend is turning, however, to felt letter boards and lighted signs. Ever thought of a lighted marquee for your wedding day? Hmmmmm…

Traditional bouquet

The classic round bouquet will always be around, but designers are trending towards simple touches— hand-tied bouquets, elegant statement flowers, exotic color combinations. Other upcoming trends include flower hoops, asymmetrical bouquets, and single stem or mini bouquets.

Blush and rose gold everything

You’ve seen it. It’s romantic through and through. But have you considered copper? It’s rose gold’s bolder big sister. Copper can be incorporated into anything from chargers to shoes to table numbers.

Gifts/ favors

Wedding favors are a great way of thanking your guests for celebrating with you. But, the tradition has, in many cases, devolved into gifting useless tokens or trinkets that most guests leave at the table. Many couples today are opting to donate to a cause in lieu of providing favors, while some others are choosing to consciously provide useful favors minus the personalization. Truth be told, most guests would rather walk away with fun memories of your wedding celebration than a coozie or bottle opener.
